The Green family wanted to update and restore their historical family compound on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Theyr plan was to demolish a Swiss style chalet on the property and restore the existing Stone House and Carriage House. Two new buildings: a mess hall (dining room) and a recreation pavilion (family room), and a guest wing addition to the Stone House were also proposed. The design re-creates a"family compound" feel typical of early 1900 Tahoe residences. AEC worked with TRPA and the El Dorado County Building Department to achieve permits for the Green Camp. The project consisted of permitting new residential buildings, a pier, and four buoys. Complex issues related to the shorezone of Lake Tahoe including stream environment zones, Lake Tahoe backshore, a historical flume, Tahoe Yellow Cress, proximity to stream inlets, and visual resources made this a challenging process of agency approvals. Mitigation projects including the restoration of the existing flume and onsite landscaping were designed to mitigate potential project impacts.
